Lakes job a splash for PPE

An over pumping project in Penrith, in the Lake District, was recently successfully completed by Performance Pumps & Equipment (PPE) in conjunction with Grisedale Contractors www.grisedalecontractors.com on behalf of United Utilities, The Environment Agency and Penrith County Council.

The project required over pumping to two rising mains of 450mm and 525mm diameters. The mains, which cross the river Eamont, have triple SI protection, which means that any contamination from fuel or sewage would be a serious breach of Environment Agency policy. The water treatment works is 0.5 kilometres over a field with limited access.

The work involved installing a 300mm flanged steel pipe bridge to cross the River Eamont 0.5 Kilometres of 300mm galvanised steel pipes and 4 X 200mm diesel engine fully bunded water pumps. 2 pumps acting as duty pumps and 2 pumps acting as standby units in case of any pump failures.

Ronnie Mc Millan, spokesperson for Grisedale Contractors said: “Service was the critical issue for all parties involved, we needed to feel comfortable that there would be no issues and that the over pumping project would be handled in a professional and efficient way. We have used PPE on a growing number of jobs as they consistently and efficiently complete the task in hand. I am sure we will continue to build on our relationship and would recommend PPE to any contractor.”

First job for S&D services Somerset

Performance Pumps & Equipment (PPE) has recently completed its first job for S&D services www.sanddservices.co.uk based in Somerset. The project, which was for Westland Helicopters, involved assisting S&D Services with the cleaning of an oil water separator. For the job PPE recommended using a Pioneer 8” pump and two 4” SPP pumps, which were delivered in a timely manner on site and installed by the experienced PPE operations team with training provided on how to operate them.

Steve Sampson, managing director of S&D Services commented: “This was not the first time we have cleaned this substantial oil water separator. However previously we have had problems with the over pumping and temporary interceptors.” He added: “Following a brief conversation and site meeting with the PPE team to explain our requirements, it was left to PPE, as I was convinced we had found the right people to do the job this time. I was proved correct. All we had to do was turn on the switch and occasionally top up the diesel. PPE delivered an excellent service on all fronts.”
